Founder's Award Nominations are Open
By: Jim Cheatam

Brothers,

The Founder's Award was created in 1981 by the National Order of the Arrow Committee to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to the lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowmen who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that he or she memorializes in his or her everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. The Award is a handsome bronze medallion bearing the likenesses of E. Urner Goodman and co-founder Carroll A. Edson, with a wooden base and brass plate suitable for engraving. A special Founder's Award arrow ribbon, with a gold colored arrow suspended from a red ribbon is be worn on the right uniform shirt pocket.

Attached are the 2008 Founder's Award Letter and nomination form. Please read the attached letter carefully and if you feel someone in the lodge should receive this recognition then fill out the nomination award form and return to Rick Ribble either by e-mail or snail mail at the address shown in the letter. Response needed to assist Evacuees
By: Alan Turner

Scouters,

We need your help NOW.

We need volunteers to assist our local area Red Cross and local Emergency Management with the influx of Gustav evacuees that we have in the West Tennessee area.

As of Saturday morning the call has gone out for volunteers. There are an estimated 6,000 evacuees who have been transported to Tennessee, with 1,500 of those coming to West Tennessee/Jackson area. Now that they are here, we need help with shelter operations. We have shelters in Jackson and in the outlying areas. There are volunteers who have been working on 2 to 4 hours of sleep and evacuees who have traveled over 30 hours in
buses and trains. They need our help.

Wanda Stanfill, Executive Director of the Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has done a great job with the times and numbers changing throughout the weekend. Marty Clements of the Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management has done a wonderful job keeping everything moving forward.

Also, I would like to send a special thank you to Anheuser-Busch for donating the cases of water to the shelters and churches in the area.

PLEASE CALL the Jackson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross to find out how you or your company can assist. The number is 731-427-5543

Please forward this message to other groups, individuals or local email lists you may have. The more people we have helping the better the conditions will be for all.

THANK YOU!

Ittawamba Leaves - July 2008
By: Rick R.

Arrowmen,

Attached is the July Lodge News Letter. Thanks go to Ryan Murga, Lodge Secretary, for pulling together this news letter. Included are registration forms for; Fall Beaver Day, Fall Fellowship, Dues for 2009, Lodge Leadership Development Conference (LLDC), and the Gold Card for 2008-2009.

Let me remind you that Sunday afternoon, August 3, at the Scout Service Center in Jackson, beginning at 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, is the next Lodge Executive Meeting (LEC) and all arrowmen are invited/welcome to attend. One key item of business will be election of a new lodge chief to fill the current vacancy until the Winter Banquet in January when the 2009 Lodge Chief will be sworn into office. Trey Climer has filled this vacancy as the interim chief leading up to the August LEC Meeting. I hope to see all of you there.

Troop OA Representatives & unit adult leaders - please share this e-mail with all OA members in your unit. We do not have e-mail addresses for all arrowmen so your role in sharing the lodge information is vital to good communication.

In Brotherhood & Service,

Ryan Murga
Lodge Secretary

Rick Ribble
Lodge Adviser

Next Event: Fall Beaver Day
By: Church

Fall Beaver Day will be held at Camp Mack Morris on August 16. This is an event open to all scouts... not just members of the Order of the Arrow. As usual with Beaver Day, a free lunch will be provided, but only if you submit your registration by August 13. After August 13, the lunch will cost $4.

This is a day of service to the camp, so be prepared to work. Bring work gloves and wear old clothes.

To OA Members, a service flap can be purchased for $5 after 8 hours of work.
To Non-OA Members, a Camp Mack Morris Ranger patch can be purchased for $5 after 8 hours of work.

I hope to see you there. Download the registration form here.

Conclave 2008 and Beaver Day
By: Church

Photobucket

SR-6N Conclave 2008 has passed and is now just a fond memory. I wish I could name every youth and adult member who helped make the SR-6N Conclave a success, but I would have to list several hundred names. This was a massive effort that required the coordination of talented youth within Ittawamba Lodge and across the SR-6N Region.

My favorite activity from this weekend was the American Indian Events. I'm sure you have your favorite. My personal photographs from this year's Conclave are here.

Just when you thought you could rest after an exciting Conclave, Beaver Day is around the corner!

Beaver Day is on Saturday, May 3. You need to register by May 1st to get the free meal. The registration form is available HERE.
